Here are my three thoughts of pgs 251-252 of Paulo Freire's essay. I thought it was hard to find certain examples to relate to me in this essay so I am just going to write down things that I find interesting. I am a connector/extender.
1. Freire says that without human beings the world would not exist. He believes that humans give the world its identity. In some ways I believe that is true. As far as we know, humans are the only creatures who are aware of themselves and the environment they live in. Without humanity the world would not be aware of itself because animals are most likely not aware of themselves or of their thoughts.
2. In banking education dialogue is resisted. In my opinion, this just means that there is no room for questions. The teacher only supplies information to the students and the students only learn what they are given. They don't ask questions and therefore do not learn knew knowledge of reality which is always changing. The world is different everyday. Therefore, new things must be learned to adapt to live in that world. Problem posing education opens up new ideas which bring creativity through questioning reality and its problems. Ive had teachers who believed they were know it alls. They believed they had the answers and were never wrong. They also believed their answers never changed. Which I always got frustrated with because every question I had for them was shut down with criticism and negativity.
3. I thought the idea of human beings being incomplete was very interesting. Human beings are never fully complete for every situation. Reality is always changing and humans must always learn new ways to adapt into that world. And adapting is learning. We adapt to survive or we learn new survival skills. Its what makes human beings so unique. Our ability to adapt.

Adrienne Rich Discussion on Tues. Sept 16.
Today's discussion in class about the inequality of men and women stirred some thoughts up in my head after class that I would like to present in this blog. I believe women are just as capable if not more than men in the workplace. Women should be able to have equal chances when applying for a job. I believe men and women are equal. I respect men but I respect women just as equally if not more. In my opinion women are everything men are not, and vice versa. For example, physically speaking men are naturally stronger and larger in size. However, women may not be as strong but they are more agile, have a higher pain tolerance, and are more flexible. For many years I did martial arts which taught me discipline and respect for others. In the ring I have seen how women have used their agility, speed, and flexibility to outsmart and beat their opponents who were at times men. I plan to be a nurse which at this time would mean I have to work with mostly women in my profession. I have no problem going into an industry that is 90% women. I don't see myself as superior to them. Many of my martial arts instructors were women so I have no problem when a woman is in a higher position than me or is my boss.

Binta and the great idea discussion questions
The end of the film surprised me because throughout the film I thought tubab referred to some type of machinery that would benefit the economy of Senegal. 2. Bintas father's idea of adopting a child from the west is interesting but I don't think it would amount to anything. A child alone won't help a country become modernized. Modernization comes through improving the quality of education. In my opinion, adoption of children from other cultures is not going to modernize a country. Only education can do that. 3. Soda's father believes that a woman's role is to care for the home and get married. Which may be an old tradition of that country but it is not a tradition that can help empower a country. My grandfather came from Poland and they practiced a very similar tradition in their culture during his day. However, I never could ask him why they practiced this because my grandfather died before I was born. 4. If binta's people adopt a western culture they could lose their sense of self pride in their work. Obviously, if a western culture was adopted binta's father would have to learn to adapt to new ways of fishing. If he chose not to his society could possible ridicule him for it because they may see the way he works as ancient. 5. Western people can learn that not all cultures are as blessed as western culture. Western culture has enabled advancement on so many levels of society which is not available in other countries. 6. Educaion can give people new ideas of how to live in society. And some of those ideas may conflict with old traditions. For example, bintas father believes that girls should stay home but in western culture all girls go to school. So a change in values can take place and even perhaps cause conflict. 7. This film has made me think about how education can influence a shift in traditions of cultures. Education can open up new technologies to make life easier.
